This month the apprentices in the Yacht Service Technician Apprenticeship Program completed the Employability portion of the course with a guest presentation from Vicki Abernathy of AERÉ Marine Group. Vicki is a former hospitality industry human relations professional with decades of experience. She shared important information about resumes, first appearances, and being prepared for an interview. Leo Marquis, the rigging training specialist at Crosby Rigging, gave a presentation of the ASME/OSHA rigging fundamentals and presented each of the apprentices with their certification. Once the candidates finish forklift training in August, they will begin the machining and fitting portion of the course.
A new apprenticeship cohort will begin in January 2021 and registration is open for apprentices and partner shipyards to join current participating yards, Derecktor Dania, Bradford Marine, and MarineMax.
