Joseph J. Rubano of Fort Lauderdale passed away at the age of 90 in the comfort of his home on Tuesday, June 30, 2020. At the time of his passing he was surrounded by those he loved the most. Mr. Rubano was chairman and owner of RPM Diesel Engine Co., which his brother-in-law started in 1956. He joined in 1961 and took over the business side of the company, growing it carefully based on treating customers and employees like family. In 1981, he established Diesel Service of America and under his guidance the two companies established an outstanding reputation as the complete source for marine engine sales, service, and maintenance.
Joseph was an original founder of Marina Mile Boulevard and belonged to many marine associations including, the Marina Mile Association, Port Everglades Association, and the Marine Industries Association of South Florida, which honored him with the Golden Anchor Award in 2017.
