The 62nd annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show officially opened with the cutting of the ribbon. This ribbon cutting ceremony was attended by elected officials State Representative Chip LaMarca, Broward County Vice Mayor Michael Udine, City of Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis, City Commissioners Steve Glassman and Ben Sorensen, as well as Stacy Ritter, CEO of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Conventions and Visitors Bureau, Andrew Doole, President of Informa Markets U.S. Boat Shows, and Phil Purcell, CEO/President of the Marine Industries Association of South Florida. The traditional cutting of the ribbon brings together the entire South Florida community to mark the start of Broward County’s own signature event that drives an economic impact of $1.3 billion to the state of Florida and serves as a key place where millions of dollars of business is contracted over the 5 days and beyond.
