Tell us where you are from, what brought you to Florida, and how long you’ve lived here.
I am a proud South Florida native, born in Miami and raised in Davie. With the exception of attending college at Wingate University in North Carolina, I have lived in Florida my whole life.
Where do you work, what is your job title, and what does your job entail?
I presently serve as Membership & Communications Coordinator for the Florida Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics. I assist the Membership Committee with growing the Chapter's membership, creating member benefit programs, and developing member engagement opportunities. I also oversee the production and distribution of our monthly newsletter and quarterly peer reviewed journal, The Florida Pediatrician, and create and publish content for the Chapter's social media channels.
How did you initially become interested in the marine industry? I have loved being on the water and boating ever since I got a 13 foot Old Town canoe when I was a little kid, but I became interested in the marine industry professionally right out of college when I began working as MIASF's PR & Events Coordinator. A few months in I attended my first boat show, FLIBS, and I was hooked. Seeing what goes into designing, building, and accessorizing a boat and keeping it running, and learning how many job opportunities each vessel creates was mind-blowing to me, and still fascinates me.
What is your favorite or most valuable benefit of membership in MIASF? My favorite benefit of membership in MIASF has always been networking. Synergy between each facet of the industry is critical to the industry's continued success as a whole, so building and maintaining business relationships through the networking opportunities MIASF offers is one of the most valuable benefits of membership in my eyes.
Describe any other community organizations or events with which you are involved. This industry will always have my heart, and I enjoy remaining a small part of it by helping MIASF during FLIBS and Dockside Corporate Services during the Miami and Palm Beach Boat Shows.
Tell us about your hobbies and what kinds of things you do for fun. I'm a new mommy, so right now my free time is spent enjoying my baby girl, but I still love to read, crochet, go fishing and, of course, go boating every chance I get!
