Did You Know?

Did you know Sean is leaving? After becoming engaged last year, Sean Smith and his fiancé, Juli, have made the difficult decision to leave South Florida and relocate to the northeast U.S. Sean’s last full day at MIASF was Thursday, February 20th, however he will continue to work part-time until he and Julie are settled. As a native Wisconsinite and life-long hockey player, Sean is looking forward to the change of seasons and Juli’s anxious to get some time on the slopes snowboarding when she’s not healing pets as a veterinarian.
Sean started with MIASF in 2014 as an intern while working on his MBA at Nova Southeastern University. As his role evolved into his current position as director of development, Sean worked tirelessly to elevate the membership and workforce/education committees to impressive levels, with many successful Better Business Lunches, Maritime Mondays, Member Mingles, faculty and B.R.A.C.E. advisor field trips, job fairs, and the creation of the first-ever Yacht Service Technician Apprenticeship program at Atlantic Technical College. But Sean’s claim to fame will no doubt be as the host of Salty Jobs, MIASF’s video series designed to attract workers to marine industry jobs and careers. With an inventory of more than 30 of the popular five-minute videos played throughout the Broward County Public Schools, Broward College, at community events, and during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Sean’s smiling face will remain a fixture in South Florida for years to come.
Although we are indeed sad to see them go, MIASF staff and the leadership of the Board of Directors wish Sean and Juli all the best for the future. Please take a moment to wish Sean well when you see him during the coming weeks.
