As leaders of the Broward Days Marine Industry Impact Team, MIASF was represented in Tallahassee March 12th and 13th, meeting with members of the House and Senate, as well as agency heads, including Kevin Thibault/Secretary of the Florida Department of Transportation, Dana Young/Secretary of Visit
Florida, and Jamal Sowell, president/CEO of Enterprise Florida, to discuss issues of importance to the marine industry, such as a reduction in the current sales tax cap on refit and repair, a transportation study regarding the need for a 45’ bascule bridge over the New River to accommodate high-speed commuter rail
and potentially Tri-Rail Coastal Link, and a funding request for the Marine Research Hub. The Florida Legislative Session ends May 3rd.
