Job Title Yacht Electronics Apprentice Reports To Senior Field Service Engineer Telemar Yachting Americas is the recognized industry leader in electronics for superyachts in the United States and abroad. General Job Description We are looking to hire an individual at our Fort Lauderdale location for the role of Yacht Electronics Apprentice. Major Duties & Responsibilities • Assist Field Service Engineer for in-house or on yachts tasks. • Dedicate substantial time to self-training when not directed otherwise. • Keeping warehouse organized and clean and maintaining equipment. • Maintains safe and clean work environment by keeping shelves, and work stations neat; sweep, dust and mop. • Wear the proper safety equipment while performing warehouse functions, receiving, storing, shipping. Qualification Requirements: • Dependable and Reliable. • Willingness to learn new skills, analytical, self-motivated, and likes to work with hands. • Strong mechanical aptitude and proficient in use of basic hand and power tools. • Good communication, organizational, time management mathematical skills. • Inventory, Equipment maintenance, data entry and computer skills may be required. • High School diploma or equivalent preferred • Have a valid Driver’s License and clean driving record • 1-2 yrs previous small business warehouse experience preferred Physical Demands and Abilities: • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms and talk or hear • Regularly lift and/or move objects 10-50lbs occasionally lift and/or move objects that weigh more than 100 lbs. • Frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl • Occasionally required to sit and climb or balance • Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust and focus. • Fluent written and spoken English is required. Bi-Lingual in Italian or Spanish is a plus Detailed Responsibilities (ELECTRONICS) • Learn superyacht conduct and etiquette when aboard a superyacht. • Learn specialized tools and test equipment as required. • Learn how bridge electronics systems are installed on superyachts. • Learn how bridge electronics systems are used on superyachts. • Learn how bridge electronics systems are repaired on superyachts. • Learn the basic electronic concepts and usage of the following systems: o Radars (X-Band & S-Band) o Gyrocompasses, Autopilots, and Steering Gear o ECDIS and chart plotter system o Speed/Log systems and transducers o Depth/Video Sounder systems and transducers o VHF radios and transmission systems o MF-HF Radios and transmission systems o InMarSat MiniC and transmission systems o VSAT/Broadband Satellite systems, transmission systems, and distribution systems o TVRO systems, transmission systems, and distribution systems o LRIT & SSAS Terminals o Navtex Systems o BNWAS systems o UPS systems and applications o Video matrix systems o GPS, DGPS, AIS, and GLONASS Systems o EPIRB and SART systems o PBX Systems o CCTV Systems • Learn the terms and usage of the following: o MMSI o IMO# o Call Sign o Sea Areas A1, A2, A3, A4 o Classifications societies o Flag States • Learn parameter programming for all above systems and their effects. • Learn data protocol send & receive basics as well as troubleshooting. • Learn how to read & generate shipboard wiring diagrams Detailed Responsibilities (WAREHOUSE) • Learn inventory asset control and management procedures • Assist with organization and cleaning of stock room • Assist with receiving shipments and processing items received for projects • Assist with preparing items for shipment and processing paperwork for projects
