Job Description for Workshop Assistant

Job description: The Workshop Assistant position has a hands-on responsibility for supervising, coordinating, and processing of Inbound, Outbound and Inventory Control activities within a warehouse environment. Work directly with the Workshop Manager and/or the Workshop Foreman to assist and coordinate overhaul or repair of customer property or equipment, including, ordering parts and material, requesting purchase orders, and staging items for fabrication and repair. Assisting machinist(s) or other service team members with set-up of customer property. Conduct daily, weekly, or monthly safety inspections of critical safety items, e.g., emergency lights, fire extinguishers, AED/First Aid equipment, man-safe routes, etc., correcting safety related issues immediately and/or reporting safety related items to the QHSE Dept for proper tracking and resolution. Oversee and/or complete preventive maintenance on critical work equipment, e.g., company work trucks, forklifts, etc., as well as liaise with third party contractors to coordinate and complete maintenance and repair of critical work equipment. Monitor contractors while on-site to ensure company safety guidelines are followed. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Hands-on responsibility for supervising, coordinating, and processing of daily Inbound, Outbound and Inventory Control activities o Guarantee compliance with all safety programs and ensure a strong culture of safety in all functional areas. o Coordinate Inbound / Outbound activity with various departments / functional teams. • Responsible for processing Inbound receipts and storage timely, accurately, and efficiently. o Unloading trucks using a pallet jack and/or forklift. o Record shipment data such as number of packages, weight, and job references. o Examine shipment contents and compare with records such as manifests, invoices, or purchase orders to verify accuracy. o Confer or correspond with appropriate stakeholders to rectify problems such as damages, shortages, or specification nonconformance. o Perform stocking functions and update system accordingly. o Send appropriate communication to stakeholders. o Maintain optimal warehouse space utilization. • Responsible for processing Outbound shipments timely, accurately, and efficiently. o Prepare and assemble orders in a timely and accurate fashion (picking and packing). o Advise shipping method, service level, and rates for materials to be shipped. o Prepare documents such as pick tickets, pack slips, and small parcel carriers’ shipping labels to route shipments. o Pack, seal, label, or affix BOL to prepare materials for shipping using hand tools and power tools. o Process outgoing shipments of customer orders accurately and timely to meet customer expectations. o Contact carrier representatives to arrange for or issue instructions for shipping and delivery of materials. o Load trucks using a forklift. • Responsible for Inventory Control and inventory accuracy. o Initiate cycle counts and reconcile daily. o Research inventory discrepancies and determine root cause by reviewing and understanding transaction history and product movement throughout warehouses. o Perform inventory recounts to determine if initial counts were correct. o Document and quantify root causes to identify improvement opportunities. o Make the necessary inventory adjustments up to a predetermined authorization level. • Ensure problems are handled immediately and with a sense of urgency. • Maintain neat work areas and organized warehouses. • Perform other related duties as assigned. Physical Demands: • Must be able to lift 35 pounds. Anything over 35 pounds must be a team lift. • Warehouse environment may be hot or cold depending on time of year. • Use of the computer between 4 - 6 hours per day.

Qualifications for Workshop Assistant

Required Experience and Education: • Wide-ranging understanding of various departmental functions such as receiving, shipping, inventory control, and/or shop floor control. • 3-5 years related warehouse, shipping, or inventory control experience. • Forklift certification is required or ability to acquire license to operate forklift and turret truck. • Valid Florida Driver’s License. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.). • Excellent communication skills - verbal and written Preferred Qualifications: • Associates Degree with at least 5 years’ experience working in a job shop or warehouse environment. • Inventory Control experience. • LEAN experience. • ISO experience. • Exceptional problem solver. • Bilingual – English / Spanish
