Welcome new MIASF staff member March 18, 2015
Sean Smith has been hired as the new director of membership for the Marine Industries Association of South Florida. Sean graduated this month from Nova Southeastern University with an MBA in Sports Revenue Generation after receiving his bachelor’s degree in Sport and Event Management from Elon University in North Carolina. While at Nova Southeastern, Sean was actively involved with the university and served as the founding vice president of the newly formed Business of Sports Students Association. That is also where he met Professor Nancy Olson, a long-time member of the marine industry who recommended him for the open intern position at MIASF.
As an intern with the MIASF this past year, Sean has been involved with several events and functions including Marine Industry Day, the MIASF Annual Meeting, and the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show and the Fort Lauderdale Billfish Tournament. Most recently, he helped organized sites and site coordinators for the 38th Annual Waterway Cleanup.
“It has been great this past year working in, and learning so much about, an industry that is so vital to the economy and community here in South Florida,” Smith says. “I look forward to the opportunity to continue to grow in an industry with such a significant impact and bright outlook.”
Sean was born in Philadelphia, PA, and raised in central Wisconsin, before moving to South Florida for high school. Given his cold weather background, he remains an adamant ice hockey and football fan with a great interest in all sports.
