Volunteer profile: Olga Fink January 27, 2016

How long have you worked at Frank & Jimmies Propeller, and in the marine industry total? I have been here at Frank & Jimmie’s almost nine years. Previously I was an assistant VP for Atlantic Blueprint in the reprographics industry for six years.

Which MIASF events, committees and projects have you been involved in? I have done the Broward County Waterway Cleanup for the last 11 years. This will be my sixth year as a mentor in the Plywood Regatta, where we also organized the propeller races. We did the races at Marine Industry Day both years, and we have done the River Raft Race. We’re also sponsoring the marine industry’s Habitat for Humanity house.

Are you involved in any other community organizations or events? My other volunteer work was with the Fort Lauderdale Garden Club, which is how I became involved with the Waterway Cleanup.

Why do you think it’s important to volunteer? Volunteering shows a commitment to your community. It teaches an important life lesson to my two children concerning giving back in the simplest way and the difference it makes when they have a personal sense of accomplishment. Involving both of my children in volunteering the last 10 years in as many events as we can in the marine industry has allowed them experiences that have not only benefited them as a part of an amazing community but also has influenced them toward a career in the marine industry. My daughter, Rickael, is 20 and still volunteering with me along with my 16-year-old son, Ricardo, who has been in the Marine Magnet program for the last six years.

Why did you get involved in the marine industry? Getting involved with the marine industry is important because it is a part of everyone’s life that lives in South Florida.

Where are you from, and where do you live now? I was born in Germany and then lived in Canada on the Army base. I moved to South Florida when I was young and have lived here in Broward County for the last 35 years.

What do you do for fun? I am a certified scuba diver, which is amazing to do, and I enjoy restoring antique furniture to relax and baking.
