Volunteer Profile: Jay Strauss November 30, 2017
Jay J Strauss, originally from Long Island, New York and alumni of Hofstra University, is a Financial Advisor with National Planning Corporation in Florida’s South-East corridor from Miami-Dade to St. Lucie County. Having spent twenty years in the food, entertainment and hospitality industry, Jay switched careers over twenty years ago, upon moving to Florida to be close to his family. Originally trained in the life insurance field, Jay has expanded his practice to include comprehensive financial and retirement strategies for individuals, families and businesses. Over the last ten years, along with a select team of group benefit specialists, the focus of his practice has been helping business owners face a greater number of financial decisions. He has found that in addition to tax, retirement, long term care and wealth transfer decisions, business owners must also: actively provide benefits to retain their top executives, prepare for the potential loss of a key employee, and determine how they will exit and transition out of the business.
Jay will be forever grateful to his former partner who Introduced him to the Marine Industries Association of South Florida. He joined MIASF and the MIAPB over four years ago, and serves on the membership committee, where he has found great satisfaction in volunteering on the committees of some major events, including Waterway Cleanup, Spin-a-thon, Marine Industry Day, and volunteering each year to help with the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.
As far as reasons for volunteering Jay says, “I wanted to give back to the community that has opened up its arms to me and my wife. “
Jay is also a member of the Central Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce, sitting on the small business committee to recruit and help businesses in that area.
Jay has lived in the Palm Beach area for over twenty years with his wife Helen, who is both a certified personal fitness trainer and specialist in fitness nutrition. Both are committed to their community by giving as much time as possible to many local and national charities.
For fun, Helen and Jay run marathons in different cities around the country as well as living a healthy lifestyle both physically and spiritually. They both exercise on a regular basis understanding how important being healthy is to a long and fruitful life. Their favorite vacation is going up to Daytona or St. Augustine, Florida to run on the wide flat beaches together.
