Volunteer profile: Gail Lax May 21, 2015
In its first year with a team at the Marine Industry Cares Foundation’s Spin-A-Thon, MIASF was one of the top five fundraising teams. That accomplishment can be credited primarily to the efforts of Land ‘N’ Sea Distributing’s Gail Lax. Thanks to her efforts, the inaugural MIASF team raised $3,496.
Lax has been in sales at Land ‘N’ Sea 30 years and in the marine industry for 40 years.
“My career is my life. I love it, I like the people, I like the industry, I like boats,” Lax says. “I am so proud to be a part of this most amazing industry.”
When she first started in the industry, she worked at Lewis Marine for six months, and before that worked at a marine retail store in Annapolis, where she grew up. Her mother also worked for a marine distributor in Annapolis. “It’s been part of my blood my whole life,” Lax says.
This was Lax’s first year helping with the Spin-A-Thon. “The last couple of years I donated money to customers that were spinning, and I saw that they raised so much money for children in area, and that all the funds stay in Broward County. That was really important,” Lax said. “It was fun, everyone had a good time.”
In her spare time, Lax does CrossFit, goes to the beach, travels and likes watersports including kayaking. She’s learning how to paddleboard and wants to learn how to scuba dive and get certified this year. And as someone who has sailed all her life, she also wants to become a certified sailboat instructor and teach sailing lessons to women.
