Virtual Marine Industry Job Fair Set for June April 15, 2014
A virtual job hunting platform powered by both traditional and social media, the MIASF Job Fair will be announced to the news media on June 11 at Nova Southeastern University’s Oceanographic Center in Dania Beach. The “Fair” will initially run as a one-week event where interested candidates may go to the MIASF website for a listing of South Florida marine job openings.
There will be a Jobs page on the MIASF website which will include the member companies offering positions, along with a brief job description and company contact person. Members interested in submitting details of available jobs should do so by contacting firstname.lastname@example.org or 954-524-2733. The goal is to have over 100 open positions offered on the website, and to connect interested job candidates with employers in the marine industry. Over time, it’s hoped the service will grow in use by members and the public.
Another goal of the service is to remind job seekers and the general public that the marine industry is a big economic engine in southeast Florida (and across the state) with opportunities for literally all backgrounds and skill levels. According to a study by MIASF in 2010, the tri-county area of Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties contributed over 100 thousand jobs to the state’s economy in fiscal year 2010, with wage income over $3 billion.
The map nearby graphically shows the relative density of marine industry workers with the greatest numbers in the state in the tri-county area. Data is from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Quarterly Census of Employment in 2011.
Following rollout of the Job Fair, information will continue to be gathered to help identify current employment numbers and then projected job openings over the next 12 months.
