Upcoming events: Electric and Hybrid Expo, MIASF Miami meeting, MICF Gala, FYBA Annual Dinner, and more December 22, 2015

Electric & Hybrid Marine World Expo Florida – Jan. 11-13, 2016. The Electric & Hybrid Marine World Expo Florida, to be held at the Broward County Convention Center in Fort Lauderdale, will showcase the latest and next-generation electric and hybrid marine propulsion technologies, components and solutions. With exhibitors and visitors from all over the world, Electric & Hybrid Marine World Expo Florida will showcase these emerging efficient propulsion technologies and components to an audience of propulsion system designers, vessel owners and operators, boat builders, engine manufacturers, naval architects and military fleet operators/chiefs. www.electricandhybridmarineworldexpoflorida.com

MIASF Miami Member Meeting – Join MIASF for a member luncheon to get updates on the Miami boat shows, which both take place in February. NMMA President Thom Dammrich and Show Management’s Efrem “Skip” Zimbalist will be among the speakers at a meeting on Jan. 14 at 11:30 a.m. at the Rusty Pelican. Space is extremely limited! Cost: $20. MICF Chairman’s Gala – The Marine Industry Cares Foundation is hosting its inaugural Chairman’s Gala on Saturday, January 16, 2016, from 7 pm to midnight at the Gallery of Amazing Things in Dania Beach.  The event is a Monte Carlo Casino night and will feature over a dozen table games of blackjack, roulette, and craps. Money raised at the event will go toward MICF’s summer camp programs and charitable donations to local charities supporting children and families in our community. YPY Annual Banquet – The Young Professionals in Yachting’s annual banquet will be Jan. 22, 2016, from 7-11 p.m. at Events by the Grateful Palate. The event is held to thank and celebrate its members and supporters and their accomplishments in the past year and will include an award ceremony, dinner, drinks and entertainment and benefits the Freedom Waters Foundation.

FYBA Annual Dinner – The Florida Yacht Brokers Association’s Annual Dinner will be held at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2016. This year’s theme is Rat Pack, so dust off your old lounge jackets and prepare to croon to Sinatra, Dino & Sammy. Cocktails from 6-7 p.m., followed by an awards presentation and introduction to the 2016 Board from 7-7:30 p.m. and dinner and dancing from 7:30-11 p.m. Tickets are $75 for members and $75 to bring one guest; nonmember rate is $250. Refit International Exhibition & Conference – Jan. 28-29 in Fort Lauderdale. Fort Lauderdale Billfish Tournament – February 27, 2016. In its 51st year, the Fort Lauderdale Billfish Tournament, owned by the Marine Industries Association of South Florida and benefiting the Marine Industry Cares Foundation, is the premier not-for-profit fishing tournament in the southeast. The tournament, sponsored by the Miami Marlins, combines a commitment to preserving the seas, cash prizes, a mandate of the release of billfish and the responsible take of fun fish. Broward County Waterway Cleanup – March 5, 2016. The 39th annual Broward County Waterway Cleanup, organized by the Marine Industries Association of South Florida and Marine Industry Cares Foundation, is the county’s largest and longest-running environmental event. In 2015, nearly 2,000 volunteers of all ages by land and over 100 boats worked at more than 30 locations across the county to remove 15 tons of trash and debris from our waterways, rivers and canals. Plywood Regatta – April 8-9, 2016. MIASF’s 20th annual Plywood Regatta is a two-day event where students will attempt to build sea-worthy vessels on Saturday, April 8 using simple hand-tools and only a limited set of supplied materials. Then on Sunday, April 9, the public is invited to come watch as the students compete in a fun-filled and friendly rivalry when the finished boats line up and race in a series of heats to determine which boats actually are seaworthy and which boats exude that sinking feeling! Marine Industry Day – June 18, 2016. The 3rd annual Marine Industry Day is a free family-oriented event aimed at celebrating the region’s marine industry through a variety of fun, interactive experiences organized by MIASF. It features live music, food trucks, children’s activities, numerous marine-related activities, water taxi tours, educational games and much more. Learn more at www.marineindustryday.org.
