February’s Maritime Monday will be held at the Funky Buddha Brewery at 1201 NE 38th Street, Oakland Park. Join friends and colleagues on February 4th for networking, food, and brews from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. – and stay on after the event for more fun with Funky Buddha’s Trivia night. MIASF members and their guest receive one complimentary beverage and light bites. Funky Buddha is a home-grown brewery with international acclaim.
MIASF members are invited to the Kick-Off Party for the 42nd Annual Broward County Waterway Cleanup on February 7th from 6:00 pm. to 8:00 p.m. at The Flagship at MIASF, as this year’s official artwork by Steve Diossy is revealed. Sailorman will host an MIASF Member Mingle Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, February 9th from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 3000 South Andrews Avenue in Fort Lauderdale. MIASF members are encouraged to put their culinary skills to the test to win $100 for the best chili entered. Not in the mood to cook? Just stop by for free food and drinks and live music. Join MIASF in supporting the Chris Hixon Memorial Inaugural 5K Run and Walk on Saturday, February 16th at Charnow Park in Hollywood. The race begins at 8:00 a.m., with check-in starting at 6:30 a.m. Register online for $30 or onsite for $35. Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers and all finishers will receive a medal. The first 10 MIASF members to register for the run and email email@example.com a screenshot of their proof of registration no later than Tuesday, February 5th, will receive a free Team MIASF shirt! Please include your t-shirt size when you email proof of registration.
The Chris Hixon Memorial 5K honors the memory of Chris Hixon, a victim of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School tragedy that took place on February 14, 2018. Chris was an athletic director, coach, and campus monitor for more than 20 years with Broward County Public Schools Additionally, he was a retired U.S. Navy Machinist Mate First Class, having served 27 honorable years – five active duty and 22 reserve. All proceeds will support the Chris Hixon Athletic Scholarship Foundation. For more information and to register, click here.
