Salty Jobs

Salty Jobs is a new educational video series from the Marine Industries Association of South Florida, hosted by MIASF Director of Development Sean Smith, that showcases marine industry career opportunities in the South Florida area. The goal of this series is to introduce a wide range of jobs associated with the marine industry to local schools, workforce agencies, and the public. You can watch all of the videos from the series below:

Episode 8 – Ward’s Marine Electric

Host Sean Smith is electrifying in Episode 8 at Ward’s Marine Electric, where he is put to work assembling shore cords and installing onboard generator breakers as part of a switchboard refit on a large yacht.

Episode 7 – Denison Yacht Sales

It’s all about the details in the seventh episode of Salty Jobs, with host Sean Smith – MIASF’s director of development. Episode 6 – Nautical Ventures

Episode 5 – Derecktor Shipyard

How in the world do you clean the bottom of a 164-foot vessel that weighs 490 gross tons? Watch Sean Smith, MIASF Director of Development and host of Salty Jobs, as he visits Derecktor Shipyard and learns about the engineering and mechanics of a haul-out and wash-down in the fifth episode of our educational video series.

Episode 4 – High Seas Yacht Service

In the fourth episode of the series, Smith showcases propulsion system shaft repairs and optical alignments at High Seas Yacht Service, a highly-specialized company dedicated to precision engine, strut, and shaft alignments for the elimination of running gear vibration, using state-of-the-art optical scope technology, laser, and reflective optic technology for precision alignments from strut to engine.

Episode 3 – Frank & Jimmie’s Propeller

In the third episode of the series, Sean showcases propeller repairs and reconditioning using the latest technology performed by the propeller technicians at Frank & Jimmie’s Propeller, which is a second-generation family owned company that was founded in 1947. Frank & Jimmie’s also specializes in high performance racing propellers, and is proud to offer on-the-job training and careers that can last a lifetime.

Episode 2 – TowBoatU.S. Fort Lauderdale

In the second episode of the series, Sean introduces viewers to TowBoatU.S. Ft. Lauderdale, a towing, salvage, and marine assistance company, and joins the crew on a mayday call for a boater in distress.

Episode 1 – RPM Diesel Engine Company

MIASF Director of Development Sean Smith learns from seasoned marine industry veterans how to replace head gaskets on an MTU12 V4000 engine and the importance of maintaining the oil pressure on a marine generator.
