Past Event: Plywood Regatta April 28, 2017
The 21st annual Plywood Regatta was a resounding success once again. This year we had 42 very enthusiastic teams competing for fun and bragging rights and gaining valuable skills, exposure to the marine industry, and team-building experience.
Funds raised by Plywood Regatta support several marine-related scholarships and educational opportunities within our community. This year we awarded $6,500 in scholarships at the event to students who will be attending the Florida Institute of Technology, Broward College, Tallahassee Community College, and Nova Southeastern University. Two additional scholarships continue to be funded, as well.
Participating schools can also request funds that support marine-related field trips, like the state SKILLS competition, shark tagging trips with NSU and the University of Miami, visits to local shipyards, and tours of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.
Additionally, MIASF continues to support the Marine Industry Cares Foundation’s summer camp programs for middle school students, including IGFA Fishing Camp, Gulfstream Sailing Camp, a marine industry immersion camp, and the Museum of Discovery Ocean Explorers Camp.
