Member updates: Denison, IYC, MICF, Parker Yacht, MPT and the U.S. Coast Guard May 21, 2015

Denison Yacht Sales was named the Top Small Workplace in South Florida by the Sun Sentinel. According to the Sentinel, employees like how founder and president Bob Denison show his appreciation and they’re proud to work at an innovative business that is quickly adding locales across the country and overseas.

On April 25, hundreds of members of the South Florida marine community came out to support the Marine Industry Cares Foundation’s 7th Annual Spin-A-Thon at Esplanade Park. The event raised $103,219 for local charities, and International Yacht Collection’s Frank Grzeszczak Jr. was the top individual fundraiser, with a total of $10,520. The MIASF team raised $3,496; IYC was the top team with $13,095.

IGY Marinas has been contracted by Brookfield Property Partners to manage the North Cove Marina in Battery Park City, N.Y. The marina, which will undergo renovations, upgrading the marina aesthetically, structurally and mechanically, opens with limited slips on May 21.

Maritime Professionals Training and the Morley Family Foundation have launched a new Founder’s Grant and Scholarship program, benefiting the Boys and Girls Club. Also, the Broward County Sheriff’s Office honored MPT instructor Wil Williamson recently with its Lifesaving Award. Williamson earned the award by helping to rescue a family of 10, including several children, when their boat capsized off Hillsboro Inlet.

Parker Yacht and MSHS have recently opened a dedicated service office at the Lauderdale Marine Center, at 2001 S.W. 20th St., Suite 106, Fort Lauderdale. Parker Yacht has also hired Jim Hearn as Service Manager. Hearn moved to South Florida from Missouri in 1980 and has worked at Hatteras of Lauderdale, Rybovich, MarineMax and Thomas Marine Systems.

U.S. Coast Guard Rear Adm. Scott Buschman took charge as commander of the Seventh Coast Guard District at the Change of Command and Retirement Ceremony on May 1 at the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Miami. He replaces Rear Admiral Jake Korn as the top Coast Guard officer in the Southeastern United States and Caribbean Basin.
