Caribbean Update from IGY Marinas and National Marine Suppliers
Last year, Hurricanes Maria and Irma were indiscriminate in their damaging paths, but most areas in the Caribbean have recovered and are welcoming the yachting community. Click here for National Marine Suppliers updates and provisioning pick up/restocking locations.

Although the Caribbean region was affected by the unprecedented weather activity, IGY is proud to advise that all its marina facilities, specifically in St. Maarten and St. Thomas, as well as all the associated vessel services, are fully up and running. Charter and industry stakeholders are invited to visit any of IGY’s Caribbean locations, where they will be pleasantly surprised at the results of hard work and facilities investment.

Informa Exhibitions is pleased to announce the appointment of Lana F. Bernstein as vice president of marketing for the company’s U.S. Boat Shows. Bernstein will lead global marketing initiatives for the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Miami Yacht Show, and Palm Beach International Boat Show — three of the world’s largest in-water boat shows — as well as the St. Petersburg Boat Show and Suncoast Boat Show in Sarasota.

With more than 20 years of experience in the luxury lifestyle and celebrity public relations and integrated marketing fields, Bernstein has earned a reputation for creating ROI-driven marketing initiatives and fostering dynamic relationships between consumers and premier brands. At Informa, she will work across multi-media platforms to broaden interest among new audiences, create innovative guest journeys, deepen the exhibitor experience and develop partnerships among like-minded enterprises.

Bernstein previously served as vice president of public relations and marketing for Modern Luxury Media, the largest luxury, regional publishing company in the U.S. with 84 magazine titles in 24 cities across the nation. Her prior experience includes serving as vice president of public relations and marketing for Greengale Publishing (formerly Niche Media), a lifestyle publishing company focused on luxury, city-specific publishing for 11 cities in the U.S. Beginning her career in the music industry prior to moving into the media sector, Bernstein has launched media properties and established major initiatives in Austin, Las Vegas, Atlanta, and South Florida. She created and produced some of the most notable events for the 2007 and 2010 Super Bowls as well as developed and implemented countless programmatic event tours across the country.

Bernstein has donated her expertise to many charitable organizations in South Florida and nationally, such as Breakthrough Miami, Women of Tomorrow Mentor and Scholarship organization where she serves as a mentor, Teach for America, New World Symphony, Miami Children’s Hospital, The Humane Society, Chapman Partnership for the Homeless, Mount Sinai Hospital Foundation and others. She is a member of The Humane Society, Perez Art Museum Miami, YoungArts, Mount Sinai Foundation’s Young Presidents Organization and the Bass Museum.

South Florida-based ACR Electronics, which designs and manufactures distress beacons and survival equipment, has upgraded its manufacturing facilities with a new Surface Mount Technology line at its Florida headquarters.

The new SMT line at ACR Electronics includes the surface mount i-Pulse M20 with multi-conveyor system to provide the highest large board handling capability and high feeder capacity, plus solder paste printer YCP10 and high-end optical inspection system YSi-V for advanced automated optical inspection (AOI) of the circuit boards.

Lauderdale Marine Center (LMC) has begun installing new dock spaces for large yachts between 90 and 150 feet and expects to complete the addition of a total of 35 docks by the end of October.

Additional improvements include, “tender row” at the far west dock, which will hold about 15 small vessels. The linear docks can hold two 100-foot yachts or one larger yacht. Also, a restaurant and floating bar are under construction in an existing building on the waterfront, and a crew gym has been completed in the same building.

Tavistock Development Company, owner of Pier Sixty-Six Marina, has added slips and dockage for vessels up to 400 feet long on the north and south sides of the 17 Street Causeway in Fort Lauderdale. The property now has 157 slips, representing a 24-percent increase, and 5,000 feet of linear dockage, a 67-percent increase.

The marina has also entered partnerships with 4Ocean and #1000Mermaids, which builds habitats for infant coral. It is home to two 4Ocean vessels that collect waste on South Florida waterways. The organization has picked up more than a million pounds of trash globally. Pier Sixty-Six is also currently displaying one of #1000Mermaids tail casts of the concrete mermaid that will be submerged off Fort Lauderdale beach later this year to create a habitat for infant coral.

In 2019, the U.S. Superyacht Association (USSA) will move its annual Superyacht Summit from its March dates in Palm Beach to align with the Refit Show in Ft. Lauderdale in April. The Refit Show will take place April 10-11, 2019, at the Broward County Convention Center, while the U.S. Superyacht Summit will precede it on Tuesday, April 9, at the same location. The alignment of these two industry events will facilitate expanded networking and professional opportunities for the marine industry.

Fort Lauderdale-based Voyager Maritime Alliance Group (VMAG) now sells a full line of marine fire detection products manufactured by Fireboy-Xintex. VMAG decided to become a distributor of Fireboy-Xintex products because of its ability to provide pre-engineered and custom-engineered fire safety systems.

According to a recent article in The Triton, Seahaven Superyacht Marina is the newest marina in Dania Beach, Florida. The property was known as Dania Megaport and Dania Beach Megaport during planning stages. The new Loggerhead marina is on the east end of the Dania Cut-off Canal and will have 2,400 linear feet of dockage for yachts 100 to 250 feet in length. The management of Seahaven Superyacht Marina anticipates opening the facility before the end of this year.
