Jerry’s Marine Service general manager Jim Zimmerman is retiring after nearly three decades with the Fort Lauderdale-based distribution company. A New Orleans native, Zimmerman has been at the helm of Jerry’s Marine since he arrived in Fort Lauderdale in 1990. Zimmerman and his wife, Diane, plan to relocate somewhere along the East Coast. “Our best wishes and thanks will travel with them,” national sales manager Paul Wohlrab said.
When the Marine Industry Cares Foundation wrapped up its 2018 Marine Industry Immersion Summer Camp at Stranahan High School on July 19th, it capped summer vacation camp experiences for more than 50 Broward County students. It was the second of two 2-week summer camps hosted by MICF in partnership with Children’s Services Council, YMCA, and Hispanic Unity of Florida, with the first event at Dillard High School in June.
“I enjoy being an instructor for MICF Summer Camps because I can see the spark when these kids realize how many opportunities they have in the marine industry,” said Steve Szoke, Dillard High School Engineering Teacher and MICF Camp Instructor. “I see them get excited about learning and their enthusiasm as they tour places like MPT and get into the hands-on activities like the Propeller Design, Build & Race activity, and building the SeaPerch ROVs,” he added.
MICF runs the camps with support from the Marine Industries Association of South Florida and association members like Maritime Professional Training, Frank & Jimmie’s Propeller, and Medical Support Offshore, as part of their mission to positively impact youth through Science, Technology, Engineering & Math initiatives. Funding from MICF events like the Annual Spin-a-thon support the Foundation and its programs like the camps, which MICF has hosted since 2015.
The Florida Inland Navigation District, better known as F.I.N.D., received the Western Dredging Associations 2018 Environmental Excellence Award for Navigational Dredging for their work to deepen the Intracoastal Waterway in Fort Lauderdale from 10 feet to 17 feet. We appreciate all they do!
South Florida-based FB Marine Group has acquired Fort Lauderdale-based yacht management and service company, Shield Marine. Jeff West, founder of Shield Marine, will remain in a business development role and oversee all day-to-day operations of the newly named division, FB Shield Marine. West will also focus on operations and client retention.
Founded in 2010 by Matthew Hayes and Jeff West, Shield Marine provides personalized yacht management service connected to the day-to-day operational requirements of many yachts in South Florida and around the globe. The company’s specialties include diesel engine services, hydraulics, electrical troubleshooting, marine air conditioning systems, bottom painting, and full-service maintenance programs.
FB Marine Group is a family owned and operated business, founded in 1994 by Randy and Kim Sweers. The company operates luxury marine dealerships in Pompano Beach, Fort Lauderdale and Miami Beach, Fla. and Cleveland, Ohio, offering sales, brokerage, charter, service, financing, parts, paint and fiberglass repair services. FB Marine Group has more than 40 employees, including factory Mercury, Yamaha, Volvo, and Formula trained service technicians.
Suntex Marina Investors announced today the appointment of Rich Carter to the position of Chief Operating Officer.
In his new role, Carter is primarily responsible for the overall service experience at all Suntex Marinas. Defining and enhancing company culture, Carter is charged with efficient and effective deployment of Home Office resources and processes across the Suntex portfolio of properties.
Prior to joining Suntex, Carter was a division president for Troon – the world’s largest third-party management company for golf and club related assets. Prior to that, he served as vice president of business development sourcing and negotiating over 40 management and advisory service contracts on behalf of Troon. His operational experience stems from 15 years as a general manager, which led him to three different countries and six different states, overseeing everything from small private clubs to high-volume resort destinations. In 2010, Carter was honored by Golf Inc. Magazine as the “3rd Most Admired Operator in the US” as voted by his peers. In total, he served with Troon for over 20 years and was an integral part of the company’s growth from a single property in 1990 to nearly 300 locations worldwide and over billion dollars in assets under management. Prior to his time with Troon, Carter worked for both Hyatt Hotels and Resorts and the Williams Hospitality Group in a variety of operational roles. He graduated with Honors with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from Florida State University.
