Marine Industry Job Fair to offer hundreds of jobs October 23, 2015

Hundreds of jobs with more than 25 companies will be up for grabs at the second annual Marine Industry Job Fair, which will take place Nov. 5 at the Greater Fort Lauderdale-Broward County Convention Center.

The Marine Industries Association of South Florida will host the job fair from 1-7 p.m. on the Thursday during this year’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. More than 400 people attended last year’s inaugural fair, which offered over 400 openings in the region’s marine industry, which generates more than 110,000 jobs in Broward County and 136,000 in South Florida.

The job fair will feature leading marine industry companies, from both the private and commercial sectors, representing commercial and recreational positions including skilled trades, sales, administrative and crew as well as educational opportunities. Job-seekers will also receive helpful job search, interviewing and career tips. Attendees can save time by preregistering by October 30 at Attendance is free.

Participants include Tradesmen International, High Seas Yacht Service, Rolly Marine, Parker Yachts, Maritime Professional Training, Marine Max, RPM Diesel, TowBoatUS, Crew Unlimited, Bradford Marine, Thomas Marine Systems, Pantropic Power, Nauti-Tech, Reverse Osmosis of South Florida, Flagship Management, Loggerhead Marina, Jerry’s Marine Service, Broward Technical Schools, Broward College, CareerSource Broward and more.

To help gain exposure for our jobs and industry, Soundings Trade Only has agreed to partner with MIASF and post our openings on their job board. This is a unique opportunity to expand the reach of the job fair and help address the skills gap by helping us reach markets with workers that wouldn’t necessarily know about us.

Also, while many veterans struggle to find employment, the marine industry offers many jobs that pay higher than the state average and that their skills, training and discipline would enable them to excel in. That’s why for the first time this year, we’re excited that United Way of Broward County’s Mission United will be participating in the job fair.

The Greater Fort Lauderdale-Broward County Convention Center is at 1950 Eisenhower Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale. Parking is available onsite or at War Memorial Auditorium (parking fees apply). A valid photo ID is required for entry.

MIASF is also working with local educational institutions and marine businesses to develop an internship program to give the next generation of marine industry workers on-the-job experience.
