Junior Achievement Career Bound Program January 30, 2019
MIASF hosted a group of 32 students from Junior Achievement South Florida on Friday, January 11th as part of JA’s Career Bound program. Richard Grennen from FHG Marine, Juno Prudhomm from Denison Yacht Sales, Ionna Hernandez from Marshall Island Registries, and Megan Lagasse from Pier 66 spoke to the students about career opportunities in the marine industry. The panel was moderated by Sean Smith, MIASF’s Director of Development and host of Salty Jobs. All the speakers on the panel are members of Young Professionals in Yachting and shared valuable experience and advice for young people looking for opportunities to grow in marine industry careers.
After the presentation the students took part in a Water Taxi tour to learn about the industry from the New River. The tour took the students past different marinas and boatyards while the speakers discussed the wide variety of career opportunities available. The students were fascinated by how many different types of marine businesses exist and asked engaging questions about how to pursue careers in the different areas of specialization. They even got to witness a boat being towed down the river! Initial feedback was excellent, with many students looking to follow-up for more detailed career advice.
