Jobs Fair At FLIBS A Success November 10, 2014
Incorporating a Marine Job Fair with the Boat Show resulted in a positive experience for both marine employers and job seekers. Participants reported a final tally of 270 attendees applying for 380 openings. The need for skilled trades topped the listings along with certified crew.
The participating employers and agencies felt it was a successful event and are looking forward to doing it again next year. The Convention Center venue worked well with room for expansion. Schools participating felt the traffic and information exchange went very well and they were busy throughout the event. The event received good media coverage and reminded those living in the region and showgoers about the importance of the marine industry in Broward and south Florida.
Consideration is being given to move the event off the opening day of FLIBS, possibly to Friday, and from a day-long run to the afternoon until show closing so employed people looking for new jobs can have an opportunity to attend.
Participants included Tradesmen International, High Seas Yacht Service, Rolly Marine, Parker Yacht, Kemplon Engineering, TowBoat US, Pantropic Power, Marine Max, Crew Unlimited, Thomas Marine Systems, Maritime Professional Training (MPT), Broward College, Broward Technical Colleges, and CareerSource Broward.
