In Memoriam of Amy Morley-Beavers and George Irvine November 30, 2016

We mourn the loss of Captain Amy Morley-Beavers, who passed away on November 5th of complications from heart surgery. Amy was a beloved member of the marine community and worked tirelessly as an instructor at Maritime Professional Training (MPT) and served as the Vice Chair of the U.S. Merchant Marine Personnel Advisory Committee (MERPAC), which works closely with the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) in advising the secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. She was awarded the USCG Public Service Commendation for improving safety in the U.S. Merchant Marine. MIASF expresses our sincere condolences to MPT and the Morley Family.

Mr. George M. Irvine, Jr. passed away on November 13th. As an iconic figure in the marine industry, Mr. Irvine’s vast career began in the marine division of Owens Corning, where he oversaw the first fiberglass boat built by Hatteras Yachts, and eventually became president of Hatteras prior to serving as president of Chris Craft. He then bought Pipewelders Marine, which he turned into an 11-acre facility with four worldwide companies. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked for donations in Mr. Irvine’s name to the MIASF Education Fund.
