Habitat, community outreach efforts reap rewards October 23, 2015
Construction is underway on MIASF’s Habitat for Humanity house in Fort Lauderdale, and sponsors are in the process of scheduling build days for their companies.
MIASF and its members are sponsoring and broke ground on their first Habitat for Humanity home in Fort Lauderdale this year. As one of the region’s largest employers, it’s vital for the marine industry to give back to the community, which inspired the marine industry builds community campaign.
The home is located at 732 NW 15 Ave. in Fort Lauderdale, and two deserving families out of approximately 1,800 applicants have already been selected.
MIASF and its members also plan to build an additional Habitat home next year, with the hopes that it will be for a veteran through United Way of Broward County’s Mission United program.
Most businesses are finding that due to a combination of deductions and a special tax credit program, donations not only build community but make good business sense due to various tax deductions that are available.
As part of our efforts to reach out to the community, in July, MIASF partnered with the Marine Industry Cares Foundation on the inaugural two-week Marine Immersion Summer Camp. The camp offered students the chance to immerse themselves in the local recreational marine industry and gave them opportunities to meet, hear from, and question marine industry professionals from various companies and fields while also undertaking fun marine related projects.
