Growth for Jobs Fair at FLIBS October 14, 2014
MIASF now expects 20-25 Marine Industry company employers, schools and other marine related employment services to participate in the Job Fair on Thursday, October 30 at the Convention Center (Room 207 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The current number of available positions has also risen to approximately 200 and there may be more by show time. The Fair will make its second appearance and has been refreshed to be patterned after the successful inaugural of “Marine Industry Day” earlier this year.
Job-seekers will receive helpful job search, resume building and career tips. A boating etiquette seminar also will be offered sharing information and insights for those new to the industry.
MIASF is excited about adding this to the shows event list and the availability to harness and continue building a skilled and professional work force. Those looking for employment will be offered the opportunity to pre-register and receive a ticket to the show after attending the job fair.
The event will remind those living in the region and showgoers about the importance of the marine industry in Broward and south Florida:
– There are 107,000 jobs that generate nearly $9 billion in revenue tied to the marine industry in the Tri-County area.
– Figures show that these are middle class occupations with an average annual wage in the Marine Cluster in South Florida of $59,986 compared to average wages in all industries of $46,566.
– A broad range of skills are needed to keep regional and global boat and yacht owners afloat: from sales and marketing, mechanics and crew, brokers and insurance agents, lawyers and finance firms to designers, dockhands and many more.
Participants include Tradesmen International, High Seas Yacht Service, Rolly Marine, Derecktor, Parker Yachts, Maritime Professional Training (MPT), Broward College, Nova Southeastern University, and CareerSource Broward. Marine Industry employers may inquire about participating in the Fair at the MIASF office. There is no charge to MIASF members.
