From the Captain’s Chair: View from the Windshield July 26, 2017
As you may know, after conducting a national search and a number of interviews, the MIASF Executive Search Committee has asked me to stay on as the CEO/President and I have accepted. Although many talented candidates were identified, the committee felt that with new leadership at Show Management, the purchase of the new building, and other important projects and negotiations, it would be helpful to maintain MIASF’s current leadership. I am pleased to continue to serve in this capacity.
Our new office in the heart of the Fort Lauderdale Historic District and steps from the New River and FEC bridge strategically situates the association at the center of the marine industry community. The New River has been the lifeblood of our industry since about 1898, when King Sons Co. Marine Ways and Boat Works was established on the south side of the river, just west of Andrews Avenue. We are proud to claim our history on the river and enthusiastic to move the association forward for this and future generations of marine businesses to uphold.
We are still in the process of getting settled-in, but we already know for certain that this spacious and stately building will serve the industry well. We have held a few meetings in the large board room, which can comfortably accommodate a group as large as 30 people, and hosted a private, catered event in the banquet hall upstairs that was scheduled prior to MIASF purchasing the building. We are considering some different options in terms of revenue generation for the meeting space and additional offices, as well as raising our visibility and enhancing our brand through community meetings and engagement. We are anxious to invite you to tour the facility at an Open House on August 23rd. We can’t wait to welcome you home.
MIASF’s 2,800 square foot office building located on Andrews Avenue near State Road 84 has been listed for sale. Interested parties are encouraged to contact our office for additional details.
With just over three months to go, preparations are underway for the 58th Annual Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show being held Wednesday, November 1st through Sunday, November 5th. Our partners at Show Management are busy implementing enhancements that will positively impact exhibitors and visitors, and all seven of the show’s spectacular venues are readying their respective sites to accommodate the number one boat show in the world. Once again, MIASF looks forward to hosting the Hospitality Lounge for members and their guests to have access to air-conditioned meeting space, daily luncheons, and special events on board the elegant and spacious 128’ Grand Floridian.
I hope you are enjoying the summer and spending quality time with family and friends.
