From the Captain’s Chair: Gearing Up for Boat Show Season August 29, 2018
I hope everyone has enjoyed the long summer days and is gearing up for another great season in South Florida. Kids are back in school, primary elections have been held, and FLIBS planning is going strong.
A newly designed entrance, an elevated food vendor and other changes Informa is making are sure to offer exhibitors and visitors a great show experience.
As you may know, MIASF and Informa are working together to engage the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention and Visitors Bureau in an expanded national and international marketing campaign to promote FLIBS in markets around the world, attracting new and diverse attendees, including many high-net worth individuals who may be unfamiliar with what Greater Fort Lauderdale has to offer. Toward that effort, we created a powerful video with local community leaders and hospitality experts who rely on the economic impact of the boat show. You can find the video on the MIASF website and YouTube channel.
If you haven’t already, please take the South Florida Business Journal survey so that the most accurate information available is included in the book of lists. The 4th Annual Marine Section of the SFBJ will be released in October at a special Breakfast with the Journal held at MIASF’s Flagship Room.
We are pleased that recent legislation signed by the president will allow yachts larger than 300 gross tons to fly the American flag, providing more opportunities for American crew as well as other benefits. Other new benefits that we’ve been working on include the launch of the Waterway View App and the New River Train App.
As always, we value your membership in the association and look forward to continuing to advance the marine industry in South Florida.
