Faculty Field Trip August 18, 2016
MIASF hosted approximately 45 teachers for a Dillard High School Faculty Field Trip on Monday, August 15th from noon to 2:30 p.m. A tour of Roscioli Yachting Center followed by a Water Taxi ride along the New River to Lauderdale Marine Center showcased dozens of marine industry jobs to the faculty and guests in attendance.
The event was coordinated by Steven Wasserman, Interim Chair of the Council for Educational Change and Senior Vice President for JLL, along with Casandra Robinson, Principal of Dillard High School, to provide educators with valuable information regarding the correlation between what’s taught in the classroom and industry needs, providing real-world, hands-on applications, and curriculum support.
Sean Smith, Director of Membership for MIASF, worked with Wasserman to design the marine industry program that included a panel discussion with education and marine industry experts, Sean Gallagan, Ph.D. of Broward College, James Brewer, Director of Business Development at Derecktor Shipyards, and Bob Roscioli, Owner of Roscioli Yachting Center. Also on hand were Don MacRae of Frank and Jimmie’s Propeller, Colin Lord of Fairport Yacht Support, and Todd Barnes from RPM Diesel Engine Company. The event will help Dillard teachers to inspire and prepare students in their pursuit of well-paying jobs, careers, and professions that are in high demand.
MIASF was excited to show this group of influencers the marine industry job opportunities that are available, and share information that these jobs typically pay 28% higher than the state average.
