Brightline Update at Anchor Meeting February 28, 2018
This month’s Anchor Meeting included a special presentation from the leadership of Brightline passenger rail service and the FEC Railroad. Brightline officials reported that they are in the process of creating an app specifically for boaters to access information regarding the opening and closing of the FEC railroad bridge over the New River. Brightline will continue its test-runs from Fort Lauderdale to Miami, with regular service from West Palm Beach to Miami beginning within the next few weeks. MIASF invited representatives of both organizations to the Anchor Meeting to discuss impacts of the increased rail line traffic to marine businesses along the New River and reiterated its position on the need for infrastructure improvements, including a 45’ or greater bascule bridge and a flyover for Broward Boulevard that lands at the Brightline station. We will continue to advocate with local, state, and federal leaders on the need for critical infrastructure improvements for our community.
