Association celebrates ‘Fulfilling Dreams’ on annual dinner cruise June 18, 2015

On Saturday, June 6, more than 200 MIASF members boarded the new Grand Floridian at Bahia Mar for the association’s annual dinner meeting. The sold-out evening, centered around the theme “Fulfilling Dreams,” included the annual awards presentation, introduction of the new board, an inspiring keynote speech by Craig Jackson, CEO of classic car auction company Barrett-Jackson, cocktails, dinner and music.

The following awards were presented as the boat cruised down the Intracoastal:

  • Golden Anchor Award: The Morley family, for Maritime Professional Training’s role in educating and raising the professional standards of the industry, received by Lisa, Amy and Ted Morley.
  • Award of Excellence: Jimmie Harrison, of Frank and Jimmie’s Propeller, for building his propeller drag races for Marine Industry Day and recreating them for the Plywood Regatta and helping to introduce children to our industry, received by Jimmie Harrison.
  • Award of Excellence: U.S. Coast Guard Seventh District’s Bridge Branch, for their efforts to ensure the reasonable needs of navigation are protected, received by Rear Admiral Scott Buschman.
  • Award of Excellence (Project of the Year): Florida Inland Navigation District, for its ongoing efforts to deepen Broward County waterways, including the Intracoastal Waterway, which are of critical importance to our industry, received by FIND Chairman Tyler Chappell.

Then the new 2015-2016 officers and board members were introduced. Next year’s executive board members are Danielle Butler, Luxury Law Group, president; David Reed, The Triton, vice president; Jim Naugle, Jim Naugle and Co., secretary/treasurer; and Kristina Hebert, Ward’s Marine Electric, past president.

The winners of the four open seats on the 2015-16 executive board are James Brewer, business development director at Derecktor Shipyards, John Terrill, dockmaster at Lauderdale Marine Center, Jimmie Harrison, owner of Frank and Jimmie’s Propeller, and Paul Engle, president of Bradford Marine.

To cap off the evening, Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett Jackson, entertained the audience with stories of how he helped build the company into the powerhouse it is today and the deal that got away.

Table sponsors included MPT, Luxury Law Group, Roscioli, Show Management, Cable Marine and Bradford Marine, and the evening’s entertainment was provided by Catfish Hunter.
