Recent Achievements and Initiatives
Florida Sales/Use Tax CapMIASF partnered with the Florida Yacht Brokers Association in 2010 to help gain legislative approval of an $18,000 sales/use tax cap on vessels purchased in Florida as a sales and job stimulus.
Florida 10-90-180 Boat Tax Exemption
In the 1990's and again in 2009, MIASF led an initiative to allow vessels purchased in Florida by non-residents the opportunity to temporarily stay in the state to utilize local repair facilities without incurring a sales tax liability.
Longshore Insurance Exemption
At the federal level, MIASF spearheaded the effort to amend the Longshore and Harborworkers Compensation Act to exempt the recreational marine industry from this duplicative and costly insurance requirement, which stifled job creation and made it challenging for marine businesses to remain globally competitive.
Marine Master Plan
As part of the critical analysis of the industry needs and recreational boating conditions, MIASF is developing a Plan for the future to identify the needed infrastructure to ensure that boating is a vibrant and fun family recreation in South Florida.
