Abovitz Underscores Florida Location Benefits March 18, 2015

During a online community chat with Rony Abovitz in February, the CEO of Magic Leap was asked why he decided to base the company in Dania Beach instead of tech strongholds in California or Washington. Replied Abovitz: “I was born in Cleveland, Ohio – but moved here to South Florida as a kid. I love it here: Disney, NASA, alligators! NASA brought the best and brightest here in the 60s to go to the moon – there is something about being here which gets you to think different and big.”

The comment reiterates a common theme Abovitz has been voicing reflecting the region’s technological skills, investor interest and riches, welcoming climate and the appeal of access to a water-based outdoor lifestyle. That was the subject in last month’s newsletter reporting Magic Leap’s infusion of $542 million in funding from the likes of Google and venture capitalists boosting the region’s investment ranking. Several other projects are also helping to revitalize Dania Beach, including the recent renovation of the city’s marina, the opening of several new hotels and restaurants, new apartments planned for Dania Beach Boulevard and a $5.6 million loan granted to Derecktor Florida from Bank United.
